Biography
James Yi Gong received his Ph.D. degree from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
in 2002, and M.Eng. and B.Eng. degrees from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 1998 and
1995, respectively, all in electrical engineering.
From 2002 to 2003, he was a Member of Professional Staff at the Hong Kong Applied Science and
Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI), Hong Kong, where he was involved in
developing algorithms for wireless local area networks. Since July 2003, he has been with the
School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore,
as an Assistant Professor. He has been serving as Technical Program Committee member or Track
Chair for prestigious IEEE conferences including ICC, GLOBECOM, VTC, and ICICS. He is a Senior
Member of IEEE. Currently, he is an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications.
Research Interest
Wireless communication systems and communication theory in general. In particular,
space-time coding/ processing, MIMO/OFDM, trellis coded modulation,
channel estimation/equalization, multi-user/multi-antenna cooperative transmission,
cross-layer design for wireless systems, and location
positioning in wireless networks .
