Career Prospects
With 2 degrees in hand, graduates enter the workplace with more career options. Trained in both technical and soft skills of business and computing, these highly sought after complementary skills fill the gap between IT and business. Double degree graduates can play dual roles and expect great career advancements by being IT-savvy and possessing strong business acumen. Here is what the employers have to say:
“In Accenture, we have been recruiting some of our best people from NTU School of Computer Engineering. We like the technical know-how, analytical and problem solving skills of these young graduates. We noticed, however, that while these graduates could pick up business knowledge on the job, they could contribute more effectively and faster if they have been exposed to business and financial concepts and practices. A double degree as proposed will therefore help meet this need.”
Accenture’s partner Mr Robert Chew
"I believe a dual honours degree covering both IT and Business will arm the students well if they are looking for a role in the Financial Services sector and specifically Product Control."
Credit Suisse’s director Mr Peter Boot
What our students say
"The curriculum for this programme is very well integrated. The module combinations are very carefully thought out and it reflects how much effort both schools had put in for this unique programme. Between a professional degree and a general degree, I do not need to make any difficult choice. This programme provides the best of both worlds in one integrative package, and that’s the aspect that I like most."
Tan Gui De, Year 2
(from St. Andrew’s JC)"The wide range of jobs that I will be able to pursue after I graduate is what attracts me most about this programme. The course is rigorous, but there are many professors who are assigned as mentors in this programme, and you can certainly get lots of advice and experience from them."
Dobson Han, Year 2
(from Hwa Chong JC)"This program on one hand has my favorite course computing, and on the other hand teaches business knowledge. They are the perfect combination for the current marketplace. Career is what every undergraduate is pursuing eventually. Good career prospect highly correlated with this course. Being exposed to two schools means you have a twice larger networking circle than your peers. You will receive help from both schools and make friends from various courses. It really sounds very exciting to me, I pretty like what I am doing now. When I am tired of doing programming, I can “take a break” by reading some marketing stories or economic theories. I am enjoying studies."
Zhang Peifei, Year 2
(from Temasek Polytechnic)"DD program is like a once in a lifetime opportunity. It expects a more challenging four years for a better future. Graduating from polytechnic, I didn't feel at all at a disadvantage from the rest of the non-poly classmates. We helped one another. I believed that acquiring both business and computing knowledge will put me at a better position when seeking for jobs in the future. I am now in a better position to understand business processes from a computing point of view, or computing processes from a business point of view."
Wang Yaozhong Jason, Year 2
(from Ngee Ann Polytechnic)
