The CN Yang Scholars Programme Undergraduate Research Experience (
CNYPR) provides scholars an opportunity to pursue independent research under supervision in the schools of Sciences or Engineering.
- The research opportunities allow scholars to immerse themselves in research culture as early as first year.
- At the end of the CNYPR, the scholar should have a good appreciation of research experience and independence to solve research problems.
- Scholars will earn 3 Academic Units (AUs) while each laboratory will receive compensation at the rate of $1250 per scholar (one-off).
After Year 1, Semester 2 onwards
- After Year 1, Semester 2, scholars are allowed to continue their research projects with the guidelines as below:

- Scholars will receive monetary allowance according to the number of hours worked, capped at 500 hours per academic year.
- The individual laboratory will receive compensation at the rate of $250 per week/40 hours according to the number of hours worked by the scholar.
- Lab attachment is not compulsory after Year 1, Semester 2 onwards.
