Getting Started for New Students
- Campus-wide Wired and Wireless Connection
NTU has high-speed campus-wide wired and wireless computer networks. There are over 25,000 network points and over 20,000 networked personal computers for use by students and staff throughout the campus. Students may remotely connect to the campus network via about 150 dial-up lines or via subscribed services from external Internet Service Providers. Every student hostel room is also equipped with network points. Find out from the Set Up My Computer section on the recommended computer specifications and how to configure your computer to use it on campus or from home. These include the settings of network card, web broswer, Outlook client, VPN and network printer.
- Life-long NTU Mailbox
Every student is given a Windows LIVE email box with 10GB storage which can be retained even after graduation. A student's default email address is his network account username appended by @e.ntu.edu.sg. The email box can be accessed through a regular web browser like Internet Explorer. Find out more from the Email & Messaging section.
- Free e-Newsletter and Mailing Lists Subscription
Students can access the Public Folders, subscribe to free NTU e-newsletters and Mailing Lists to get up-to-date information and announcements on the subjects of interest. You will receive new issues of the subscribed e-newsletters in your e-mailbox. Notifications will also be sent to your e-mailbox whenever a new posting or announcement is posted to the mailing lists you subscribed. To keep students updated on the important announcements and latest events on campus, all new undergraduates are automatically subscribed to the following:

- e-Services
Course registration, change of particulars, billings, and matters relating to curriculum and examination, as well as requests and booking of Library resources, seminar facilities, hall facilities and recreational facilities are available online via a convenient one-stop services portal called StudentLink (for undergraduates) and GSLink (for graduate students). Each student is also provided with a convenient online personal portal iNTU or 'information gateway' for easy access and subscription to information and services which are of interest to the individual students. Quick Links in the University portal also provide quick access to popular e-services.
- e-Learning and Online Resources
Students' learning is facilitated by rich online learning materials, discussion groups and quizzes via NTU's e-learning system called edveNTUre. Livecasts of interesting seminars and events are regularly made available to students via NTU campus-wide networks. Ease of learning in NTU is further augmented by NTU's abundant online digital Library resources such as online databases, video-on-demand systems, past examination questions, jounal extracts, scholarly publications, etc. Self-paced standalone CD titles on IT courses are available at the Media Resource Library. These off-the-shelf courses allow users to learn at their own pace and comfort level. You may visit the Library website for more information.
- Computer Ownership Scheme and Special Deals
(a) As a means towards more effective learning, each new student is required to have a notebook computer for usage on campus and off campus. Students will find that notebook computers are useful tools for formal lessons and course works anytine and anywhere.
(b) NTU has arranged with some vendors to allow students to purchase personal computers and software at preferential prices. Please refer to Latest Deals section for the computers and configurations available for the current academic year. A new contract with new computer models and configuration will be finalized for purchase by the start of each new academic year. Students are advised to check out the offers under the scheme before making their computer purchase.
(c) Full-time undergraduates who need financial assistance may purchase a computer via the interest-free "NTU Student Personal Computer Loan" scheme administered by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Please check the loan details from http://admissions.ntu.edu.sg/UndergraduateAdmissions/FinancialAssistance/Pages/PCLoan.aspx.
