Getting Started for New Staff
  1. Getting Connected
NTU has high-speed campus-wide wired and wireless computer networks. There are over 20,000 networked personal computers for use by students and staff throughout the campus. Staff may also remotely connect to the campus network via about 150 dial-up lines or via subscribed services of internet service providers. Every staff housing unit in the campus is also equipped with network points. Find out from the Set Up My Computer section on the recommended computer specifications and how to configure your computer to use it on campus or from home. These include settings of network card, wireless access, Outlook client and network printing.

  2. NTU Mailbox and Email Address
Every staff is given a NTU email box with 5.3GB storage. A staff's default email address is his network account username appended by @ntu.edu.sg. Staff may choose to personalise his/her email address. However, the personalised email address will end with @pmail.ntu.edu.sg. Access to the email box can be via Outlook Client or Web Access, via the campus network or remote access. Find out more from the Email & Messaging section.

  3. Public Folders and Mailing Lists Subscription
Staff can access the Public Folders, subscribe to free NTU e-newsletters and Mailing Lists to get up-to-date information and important announcements on the subjects of interest. Notifications will be sent to your email account whenever a new posting or announcement is posted to the mailing lists you have subscribed.

All staff are automatically subscribed to the Healthy Lifestyle mailing list. You may unsubscribe yourself or subscribe to other mailing lists, such as  Staff Notice Board. Please refer to Email & Messaging > Mailing List for more details.

Staff are strongly encouraged to subscribe to IT Connect (http://enewsletter.ntu.edu.sg/itconnect), a monthly IT e-newsletter published by CITS, to keep abreast with the latest information on IT and new e-services available on campus.

  4. Personal Webpages and mySite Storage
Each staff is allowed to create his personal webpages on the NTU web server. Access to the web server is by his network account username and password. Please refer to Web Publishing section for the assigned web address. Each staff is allocated 10MB for webpage storage. Each staff is also allocated 1GB of storage space in mySite, a personal file storage which provides users with the flexibility to upload, download and share documents via a web browser. To start using mySite, go to http://mysites.ntu.edu.sg/mysite. Webpage storage and mySite storage are valid only during his employment in NTU.

  5. e-Services
All staff applications, change requests, claims, and notifications relating to salary, training and other matters, as well as requests and booking of Library resources, seminar facilities and recreational facilities are available online via convenient one-stop services called StaffLink. Each staff is provided with a convenient online personal portal iNTU or 'information gateway' for easy access and subscription to information and services which are of interest to the individual staff. Quick Links in the University portal also provide quick access to the popular e-services.

  6. e-Learning and online resources
Ease of learning in NTU is further augmented by NTU's abundant online digital Library resources such as databases, video-on-demand systems, jounal extracts, scholarly publications, etc. Livecasts of interesting seminars and events are regularly made available via NTU campus-wide networks. Self-paced titles on IT courses are available at the Library. These off-the-shelf courses allow users to learn at their own pace and comfort level. You may check the Library website for more information.

  7. Computer Ownership Scheme
NTU has arranged with some vendors to allow staff and students to purchase personal computers at preferential prices. Please refer to "Latest Deals" for the computers and configurations available for the current academic year. A new contract with new computer models and configuration will be finalized for purchased by the start of the new semester. Staff are advised to check out the offering under the scheme before making their computer purchase.
