Setting Up Dial-Up for Windows

To dial-up to NTU network, you'll need:

  1. a laptop or desktop PC
  2. Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, VISTA & Windows 7
  3. a standard modem for connection at 56kbps, 33.6kbps or 28.8kbps
  4. your Network Account


Setup your computer as follows:

  1. Download the NTURAS Dial-up installation file below. Copy the file to a blank diskette.

  2. Execute the NTURAS dialup.exe file. Insert your Windows CD if required during the course of the installaton. When installation is completed, reboot your computer.

  3. Click on the NTURAS Dial-up Service icon. Next click on Properties.

  4. Enter the phone number of your choice and click the OK button.

  5. To logon please use your Network Account in the form of DOMAIN\username i.e.


    For student STUDENT\username
    For staff STAFF\username
    For assoc* ASSOC\username

    Note: * Alumni using ASSOC Network Account are not allowed access to the Dial-Up service. Above ASSOC account refers to those issued to our industrial partners users.

  6. Click on Connect to start dialing to NTU network.

  7. To access the Internet, you'll also need to configure your web-browser here.

Setting Up SSL VPN (Virtual Private Network) for Windows/Mac OS/Linux

To VPN to NTU network from the Internet, NTUwireless or EDUWIN, you'll need:

  1. A laptop or desktop PC

  2. Internet connection from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) if connecting from home. 

  3. Supported OS: Microsoft Windows XP or VISTA or Mac OS X 10.5, 10.4 or Open Suse 11 (32 bit) or Ubuntu 8.10 (32 bit)

  4. Supported browser: Firefox, IE 7/8 or Safari


  5. Java 6 installed on Mac OS/Linux/Windows or ActiveX enabled on Windows

Note: You do not need to connect to VPN to access resources on the network if you are staying within NTU Campus.

 Connecting to VPN

  1. On a web browser (eg Firefox, IE 7/8 or Safari), go to NTU Homepage (URL: www.ntu.edu.sg), click "NTU VPN" under QuickLinks or type ntuvpn.ntu.edu.sg on a Web Browser.


  2. For first time access:
  • A VPN client will be installed and configured automatically on your system after the entered credential is authenticated successfully
  • During the installation process, there will be some security prompt, please click "Run" or "Ok" to continue with the installation
  • The client will connect to the VPN server automatically after the installation is completed

  1. For subsequent access, there will be no client installation and VPN will be automatically established after the entered credential is authenticated successfully


  2. If the client is not installed successfully, please download from following and installed:
VPN Client for Windows (32 bit)  
VPN Client for Windows (64 bit)  
VPN Client for Mac OS X   
VPN Client for Linux  

 Signing Out of VPN

  1. Click the  icon found on the bottom left corner of the screen and select sign-out or Click "Sign out" on the SSL VPN home web-page.

Setting Up Microsoft-VPN (Virtual Private Network) for Windows

To VPN to NTU network from the Internet, NTUwireless or EDUWIN, you'll need:

  1. a laptop or desktop PC

  2. Microsoft Windows 2000, 2003, XP, VISTA & Windows 7 

  3. Internet connection from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) if connecting from home

  4. your Network Account

Note: You do not need to connect to VPN to access resources on the network if you are staying within NTU Campus.

  1. Download the NTURAS VPN installation file below for your Windows version. Copy the file to a blank diskette.

  2. Execute the NTURAS file. Insert your Windows CD if required during the course of the installaton. When installation is completed, reboot your computer.

  3. Make sure you're already connected to the Internet. Click on the NTURAS Virtual Private Network icon.

  4. To logon please use your Network Account in the form of DOMAIN\username i.e.

      For student STUDENT\username
      For staff STAFF\username
      For assoc* ASSOC\username


    Note: * Alumni using ASSOC Network Account are not allowed access to the VPN service. Above ASSOC account refers to those issued to our industrial partners users.

  5. Click on Connect to start tunnelling to NTU network via VPN.

  6. To access the Internet, you'll also need to configure your web-browser here.

Setting Up Microsoft-VPN for Apple iPhone

  1. Touch the Settings icon shown in red.

  2. Select 'General

  3. Select 'Network'

  4. Select 'VPN'

  5. Toggle the 'VPN' to ON and add a NTUVPN configuration

  6. Press the PPTP Tab and enter the following configurations.

    •  Description as NTUVPN
    •  vpngate.ntu.edu.sg
    •  staff\username e.g. staff\jamesbond
    •  NTU password
    •  Select encription level to Auto
    •  Send all traffic to ON and
    •  Save the configuration

  Establish connection......

  1. Select 'Settings' from Home dashboard screen

  2. Set VPN to 'ON' to establish connection.

  

Internet Explorer Proxy Settings

To access the Internet via web browsing, explicit proxy configuration is not required.

This means that with the default web browser setup that come with a fresh Operating System installation, web surfing is immediate once network connetivity is established.

  1. Click on Tools>Internet Options...

  2. Select the Connections tab and highlight the remote access profile you'll be configuring. Next click on Settings...

    i. NTURAS Dial-up Services

     ii.NTURAS Virtual Private Network
