Set Up My Computer

Check out the following that you'll need to configure to use your PocketPC Mobile 5.0 on campus.

Campus Wireless LAN Settings

To configure your PocketPC Mobile 5.0 for use on NTUwireless:
1. First check if your PocketPC has been tested to work on NTUwireless before from our list.
   
   
2. Next you'll need to configure your PocketPC Mobile 5.0 to use:
   
   a) SSID or Network Name NTUWL  (in uppercase)
   
   b) WEP or Data Encryption disabled
   
   c) Infrastructure or Access Point mode
   
   
3. (The following configuration may differ on your PocketPC Mobile 5.0. The example shown is screenshot from a DELL AXIM X51 Pocket PC).
   
   First enable your WLAN on your PDA. Click on Start>Settings and then WLAN Utility. Click to toggle on the radio button Turn On.

4. If successful, WLAN ON is displayed as shown below.
   
    
   
   Click OK when you are done.
   
   
5. Click on Start>Settings and then click on the Network Cards icon.

6. Click on  Add new...
   
   
   
   
7. Enter NTUWL (in uppercase) and select The Internet.
   
   
   
   
8. Next, tab  Network Key, select Authentication: Open and Data Encryption: Disabled as shown below.
   
   
   
   Click OK when you are done.
   
   
9. If your setup is successful, you will see the following NTUWL displayed as Connected.
   
   
   
   Click OK when you are done.

VPN Settings

To use your PocketPC Mobile 5.0 on the campus wireless network or on EDUWIN for internet access, you will need first to have the correct proxy settings and VPN (Virtual Private Network) pre-setup.

To access internet you need to manually invoke VPN first.

1. Click on Start>Settings and then click on the Connections icon.

2. Click on  Edit my VPN servers as shown below.
   
   
   
   
3. Next, click New... Create VPN profile My VPN and enter vpngate.ntu.edu.sg.
   Select PPTP and click Next.

4. Enter your Network Account and click on Finish.
   
   
   
   
5. Next select the Proxy Settings tab. Check the This network connects to the Internet.
   
   
   
   
6. Click OK when you are done.

Accessing Internet

To access internet you need to manually invoke VPN first. For PocketPC Mobile 5.0, you will need to invoke VPN from the Settings panel. Once connected, then you invoke internet browsers.

1. Click on Start>Settings and then click on the Connections icon.

2. Click on  Edit my VPN servers as shown below.
   
   
   
   
3. Next, press and hold your stylus at My VPN until you see circle-dots display. Wait for the circle -dots display to complete and a selection box will be prompted.

4. Click Connect and a dialog box Connecting... is displayed.

5. If successful, the status My VPN (VPN) will be display as you tab on the wireless icon at the top.
   
   
   
   
6. Next, invoke internet browser and surf.
   
   
   
   
7. Simply surf NTU web and Google web.
   
    
   
   
8. To end VPN session to internet, tab on the wireless icon at the top and select Disconnect. If successful, My VPN (VPN) link status would be not be displayed.
