Configuring PocketPC 2002 Quick Start Guide 

Check out the following that you'll need to configure to use your PocketPC 2002 on campus.

   



Campus Wireless LAN Settings

To configure your PocketPC 2002 for use on NTUwireless:
  1. First check if your PocketPC has been tested to work on NTUwireless before from our list.

  2. Next you'll need to configure your PocketPC 2002 to use:

    a) SSID or Network Name NTUWL  (in uppercase)

    b) WEP or Data Encryption disabled

    c) Infrastructure or Access Point mode

  3. To verify your connectivity, please use the client utility that come with your WLAN card to check your setup.




  4. By default, most wireless network adapters are already set to Use server-assigned IP address. The TCP/IP configurations of your PocketPC should be in the form:

    IP Address 155.69.x.x
    Subnet Mask 255.255.x.x
    Default Gateway 155.69.x.x

           


Note:
Above PocketDHCP utility is a useful tool which can help verify your PocketPC TCP/IP settings and also for troubleshooting. This utility can be downloaded here.

VPN and Pocket Internet Explorer Settings

To use your PocketPC 2002 on the campus wireless network or on EDUWIN for Internet access, you'll need first to have the correct proxy settings and VPN (Virtual Private Network) pre-setup
  1. Click on Start>Settings and then the Connections tab. Click on  Connections.

  2. Select the connection settings for all three options as shown. Next click on Modify... for Work Settings.




  3. Select the VPN tab and click on New...




  4. Create a VPN profile as shown below using vpngate.ntu.edu.sg. Click OK when done.




  5. Next select the Proxy Settings tab.




  6. Check This network connects to the Internet.




  7. Click on OK to complete your configuration.

Windows Media Player Settings

For Windows Media Player setup:

  1. Launch your Windows Media Player.




  2. Click on Tools>Settings and select Network from the list.




  3. Select  LAN





  4. Click on OK to complete your configuration.

RealOne Player Settings

To configure your PocketPC RealOne Player:

  1. Launch your RealOne Player.




  2. Click on Options>Preferences and select Network... from the list.




  3. Configure Network Setting as shown i.e 802.11B and 11Mbps. 




  4. Click on OK to complete your configuration.

Signing-In to Wireless LAN

Once you have VPN and proxy settings been properly configured, to access the Internet:

  1. Click on Start>Settings and then the Connections tab. Click on  Connections.

  2. Click on Connect for Work Settings




  3. Next use your Network Account to sign in as shown. You may check on Save password if you're using own/personal PocketPC.




  4. Once successfully connected, you'll see a Connected message prompt as shown.




  5. To access the Internet, simply launch your Pocket Internet Explorer.




  6. To sign-out, click on  and select End.
