Computer Terminal Room 
What Computers Are Available

Computers in the Computer Terminal Room, Libraries and Hall PC Rooms are accessible by all students and staff of the University, including students and staff of NIE. For our Alumni users, only computers in the Hall PC Rooms are not accessible to you.

Students are free to use the Computer Terminal Room located at Level 1 South Academic Complex SS1-01-03. Computers in the Hall PC Rooms are mainly catered for residents of the respective halls.

The followings are available for use in the Computer Terminal Room:

  • 80 or more units of desktop computers (Pentium 4 processors), running on Windows XP Professional 
  • Selected computers come equipped with an Iomega Zip drive (supports 100 & 250MB density)
  • All computers are connected to the campus network and Internet
    CDRW-ready (at 48x Write and 24x Read/Write)
  • 2 office-duty network laser printers (chargeable at 5 cent per A4 sheet through CashCard payment)
  • XP-compatible USB thumb drives supported

What Software Are Available

All computers are installed with:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer with Sun Java Virtual Machine
  • All popular or neccessary plug-ins
  • The full Microsoft Office 2003 or XP suite i.e. Outlook, Frontpage, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, etc.

Computer Terminal Room Opening Hours

The Computer Terminal Room opening hours are as follows:

 Monday to Friday

8.30am to 12 midnight

 Saturday 8.30am to 4pm
 Sunday, Public Holiday Closed

For the opening hours of Hall PC Room, please check with the respective Hall General Office for details.

Rules and Regulations

Please note the rules and regulations when using the Computer Terminal Room:

  1. No food, drink, smoking or littering.

  2. Book or reserve (current day booking only) the computer before you use (1 hour usage).

  3. Do not hog/reserve the computer seats with your belongings. These items will be REMOVED if found.

  4. Do not install or duplicate unlicensed software using the CD-Writer.

  5. Do not play games, VCD, IRC/ICQ or any undesirable media in computer room.

  6. Disciplinary actions will be taken against any user who found removing or vandalising the University's property.

  7. For the consideration of others, do not speak loudly and keep noise level or disturbance to the minimum.

  8. Users will be asked to LEAVE if found violating any of above regulations.

  9. If in doubt please approach the duty personnel for technical assistance.
