Learning Pod @ South Spine 

The Learning Pod @ South Spine (previously known as South Spine Computer Room / Terminal Room) provides NTU students with a brand new learning and collaboration environment in campus. It is centrally located at SS1-01-03, near to the Nanyang Auditorium.

What Facilities Are Available?

The Learning Pod @ South Spine provides the follwoing facilities:

1) 40 units of desktop computers (free of charge) -- 20 units of 1-hour PCs for booking and 20 units of free-access thin-client stations. The 1-hour PCs are equipped with DVD-RW drives.

2) Network printing services (chargeable) for both desktop and notebook computer users (print queue: \\ccpserver\sslp-prt).

3) 4 close-door group discussion rooms for booking (free of charge). Booking of discussion rooms can be done personally over the counter with matric card. Each room is equipped with a 42-inch LCD screen and 2 wall-mounted writing glass boards. Non-permanent marker pens can be loaned from the counter for writing on the glass boards.

4) A “Laptop Hot-plug Area” for notebook users to power up and secure their notebook computers. The removable power socket and security cable lock can be loaned from the counter.

5) Free seating learning space with configurable tables, chairs, ottomans and sofa. Power points are available on the floor.

What Software Are Available?

All computers are installed with:

  • Windows XP Pro with SP3 or Windows 7
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 with Sun Java Virtual Machine
  • All popular or neccessary plug-ins
  • The full Microsoft Office 2007 suite i.e. Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, etc.

Opening Hours

The Learning Pod @ South Spine opening hours during term time are as follow:

 Monday to Friday

8.30am to 12 midnight

 Saturday 8.30am to 4.00pm
 Sunday, Public Holiday Closed

Rules and Regulations

Please note the rules and regulations when using the LearningPod @ South Spine:

  1. No food, drink, smoking or littering.

  2. The 1-hour computers and close-door discussion rooms must be booked before use.

  3. Do not hog/reserve the computers or seats with your belongings. These items will be REMOVED if found.

  4. Do not install or duplicate unlicensed software using the DVD-Writer.

  5. Do not play games, watch movie DVD/VCD, use IRC/ICQ or any undesirable media.

  6. Disciplinary actions will be taken against any user who found removing or vandalising the University's property.

  7. For the consideration of others, do not speak loudly and keep noise level or disturbance to the minimum.

  8. Users will be asked to LEAVE if found violating any of the above regulations.

  9. Please approach the duty personnel at the counter for any technical assistance.
