Back Stage (Hardcopy Days)

Here's how the publication was produced and delivered when print copies were made.

Editor calls for a meeting to discuss the feedback for the last issue, take suggestions for the coming issue, and assign writers for the new articles. Datelines for the new issue is set.

External articles are confirmed. And staff writers do their research for their assigned article(s).

Submitted articles are assigned by the editor to the CITS staff members in the team for editing and proof-reading. Then the editor will vet these edited articles. The process is repeated when necessary.

The editor then passes all the vetted and proof-read articles and a list of the sequence of articles for the new issue to the Artworks department. Photographs, cartoons, and other illustrations are produced or sourced at this stage to fill up the page quota and provide visual relief to each of the articles.  A second proof-reading may take place as suitable illustrations are sourced for each of the articles.

All the illustrations, cover layouts, and articles are then passed to the printer. The printer comes back with colour proofs of the cover pages, and page by page article layout. These are checked by the Artworks department before final printing takes place.

The printer starts to print the entire issue. This takes about 5 working days.

Printed copies are distributed directly to certain schools in NTU with large distribution numbers and which are further away from CITS, e.g. EEE, SAB, and CSE.
