Have you ever been curious as to what goes on behind the scenes? Here's a flow chart of the work that takes place for the electronic issues. (Check here if you want to see how it was done in the days when printed copies were produced.)
Editor calls for a meeting to discuss the feedback for the last issue, take suggestions for the coming issue, and assign writers for the new articles. Datelines for the new issue is set. |

External articles are confirmed. And staff writers do their research for their assigned article(s). |

Submitted articles are assigned by the editor to the CITS staff members in the team for editing and proof-reading. Then the editor will vet these edited articles. The process is repeated when necessary. |

The editor then passes all the vetted and proof-read articles and a list of the sequence of articles for the new issue to the Artworks department. |

In the PDF days, the Artworks department lays out each article in sequence in PageMaker. Each illustration is selected and converted into a suitable form for import to PageMaker.
When the newsletter migrates to full CMS publication, the layouts are based on pre-selected template and done entirely on CMS software.
A second proof-reading may take place at this stage. |

In the PDF days, when all the articles are laid out properly in PageMaker, the entire file is converted to PDF (Portable Document Format). After that, links within the resultant file are painstakingly added, together with navigational bookmarks, and the setting of other file properties.
In CMS, the articles with hyperlinks are also laid out in the email to subscribers. |

When the e-newsletter is ready, the website is updated, and publicity material produced. The new issue is then announced through the CITS website and ITZone mailing list. |
