NTU Colours Award Descriptor (w.e.f AY2010/11)
Objectives
- To recognize high standards of performance displayed during University games such as IVP, SUniG and national/regional competitions;
- To encourage excellence in sports; &
- To promote exemplary conduct and good sportsmanship
Eligibility
Students are eligible to be nominated by their respective sports officers when they are in their final year of study.
Types of Award
For Students
University Blue Award
Recipient must have represented Singapore in at least 1 of the international/regional major Games such as the Olympics, Asian/Commonwealth/SEA Games/Championships with medal placing, and achieved at least 2 of the following:
a) Represented combined universities team at World University Games/Championships and/or Asean University Games;
b) Represented NTU at IVP, SUniG, and/or in national leagues with top 2 placing consistently;
c) Showed outstanding leadership qualities and contribution to sports promotion in NTU, etc.
University Red Award (New Award, w.e.f. 2010)
Recipient must have completed 2 programmes at NTU and represented NTU in sports for at least 5 years.
He/She must have represented NTU for a minimum period of 3 years while pursuing his/her 1st degree and must have obtained a Full Colour Award for that period of representation.
The period of representation while pursuing the 2nd degree/diploma must be for a minimum period of 2 years and the representation and achievement must be at a level equivalent to a 2nd Full Colour.
Full Colour Award
Recipient must have achieved at least 2 of the following:
a) Represented Singapore at international/regional Games/Championships;
b) Represented combined universities team at World University Games/Championships and/or Asean University Games;
c) Represented NTU in at least 2 local competitions yearly (such as IVP, SUniG, national league or invitational) with top 3 placing consistently.
Half Colour Award
Recipient must have represented NTU in at least 2 local competitions yearly (such as IVP, SUniG, national league or invitational) with top 3 placing consistently.
Merit Award
Recipient must have represented NTU in at least 2 local competitions yearly.
Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards
Athletes who have achieved outstanding performances for the year can be nominated by their respective sports officers. In addition, other qualities such as character, ability to lead and contribution to sports in NTU will be taken into consideration.
Special Achievement Award
Athletes who have displayed an exceptionally high level of performance at national level competitions (whose sport is not represented at varsity level) for a certain academic year will be nominated for a special congratulatory award.
For Coaches
SPIRIT Award
This award is presented to coaches in recognition of their contribution to the university as co-partners in inculcating team values to our athletes.
Selection Committee
The committee shall comprise two members of the NTU Sports Advisory Council with one presiding as chairman of the selection board. Other committee members include the Head of Sports & Recreation Centre and one sports officer who will also act as secretary of the meeting. One member from the NTU Students' Sports Club and NTU Students' Union Management Committee will also be appointed to represent the student population.
