Upgrading of Sports Facilities
In preparation to host the 2010 Youth Olympic Athletes’ Village, improvement works will be carried out at the Sports & Recreation Centre.
Sports & Recreation Centre will be the training venue for Weightlifting (Sports Hall 1), Judo (Sports Hall 2), Tae-kwon-do (Sports Hall 3), Athletics (running track and multi-purpose field), Basketball (outdoor basketball courts), Swimming and swimming event of the Modern Pentathlon (swimming pool), Tennis (outdoor tennis courts).
Minimal upgrading will be done within the sports halls. The organizer will be laying mats to cater to the three sports. The outdoor courts will be resurfaced with a new sports surface and lightings will be improved. The most major change will be the multipurpose field next to Hall of Residence 6. New drainage lines have been included together with floodlights. With the floodlights, NTU will have 3 floodlighted soccer pitches, probably more than any other clubs or institutions in Singapore. A changing room is also included for the convenience of the users. Sports facilities will be closed in phases to facilitate the upgrading exercise for completion by February 2010.
