The Singapore Universities Sports Council comprising representatives from NTU, NUS, SMU and SIM was formed to promote university sports among undergraduates and select deserving students to represent Singapore in international tournaments such as the ASEAN University Games, World University Championship and Universiade. The Council is an affiliated member of the ASEAN Univerisity Sports Council (AUSC).
NUS is the chair of SUSC for the year 2008 and 2009. The chairmanship of the Council is rotated among the 4 universities on a 2-year term. The Council oversees the management and organisation of the Singapore University Games.
The aim of the Council shall be to strengthen ties, appreciation and understanding among students of member universities and to further the general objectives as follows:
1. To promote and develop sporting values among student athletes.
2. To educate student athletes on sporting excellence thereby spreading the spirit of Olympism.
3. To bring together the student athletes of member universities for joint participation in regional and international
university sporting events, conferences, etc.
4. To help enhance the level of athletic skills and performance of university student athletes.
5. To carry out joint projects for the development of physical education, sports and educational recreation.
6. To foster better understanding and co-operation among the member universities in the development and promotion
of sports among its student population.
