Renewing the Student’s Pass 

International Students Centre (ISC) assists graduate and exchange/non-graduating students in the renewal of their Student's Pass, when necessary.

Students are advised to extend their Student's Pass one month before the date of expiry.  Please liaise with the Graduate Studies Office (for graduate students), the Office of Academic Services (for exchange students) or the school/department in charge of your registration matters to obtain a Letter of Offer for the extension of your course. This is required before ISC provides you the information to submit the extension of your Student's Pass application electronically.

Once the application is approved, you will need to collect your new Student's Pass at the Immigrations & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) with the following documents at ICA:

  • Passport
  • Student's Pass that was issued to you earlier
  • Medical Report
    • If you submitted a medical report to ICA not more than 2 years ago, you do not need to re-submit a new medical report.
    • The medical report should not have been issued more than 3 months ago at the time of submission to ICA.
  • Duly signed copy of Form 16, printed from SOLAR
  • Two recent passport-size photographs
  • In-Principle Approval (IPA) Letter, to be stamped by NTU

A fee of S$40.00 per year or part thereof is payable when you collect the Student's Pass at ICA.  Additional fees for visa ($20 to $40 depending on single or multiple-journey entry visa) apply accordingly. Fees are subject to change by the ICA.

Undergraduate Students - Renewal of Student's Pass (e.g. extension of studies)

Students whose Student's Passes are due to expire and are waiting for the release of their results must surrender their Student's Passes to the Student's Pass Section, Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) before the expiry date of the Student's Pass. The Address is 4th Storey, ICA Building, 10 Kallang Road (next to Lavender MRT Station).

Students who surrender their Student's Passes will be granted a short stay in Singapore on cancellation of their Student's Passes.

Students are advised to extend their Student's Pass one month before the date of expiry, or in some cases, immediately after the release of the examination results.

Student Affairs Office (SAO) assists the student to register the application electronically on ICA Solar System. Please bring along the following documents to SAO, Level 6, Student Services Centre.

  • An advice on extension of studies showing the expected graduation date - to obtain it from the Office of Academic Services at Level 1, Student Services Centre
  • Passport with at least six months validity period
  • Existing Student's Pass and Disembarkation & Embarkation Card

Form 16 can be applied by logging into the Student's Pass On-Line Application and Registration (SOLAR) at the Immigration & Checkpoint Authority (ICA) ICA website under E-Services. The SOLAR application number and other details that you need to log into the SOLAR system will be given to you by Student Affairs Office. When submitting Student's Pass application through SOLAR, you are required to attach a digital colour passport-size photograph which meets the requirements stipulated by ICA:

i.    Photograph image must be taken within the last three months;
ii.   Photograph must be taken against a white background with a matt or semi-matt finish;
iii.   Photograph image must show the full face and without headgear (headgear worn in accordance with religious
      or racial customs is acceptable but must not hide the facial features);
iv.  Image must be in JPEG file format (file extension is .jpg);
v.   Image file size must be no more than 60 KB;
vi.  Passport size (400 x 514 pixels);
vii. Taken with camera of at least 2.0 megapixels.

A processing fee of $30 is required for every application submitted to Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). The fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the application or if application is withdrawn after submission. Payment can be made online via SOLAR/SOLAR+ with eNets Credit/Debit Card or internet banking. 

Please note the student must, before the expiry date of the existing Student's Pass, surrender it to ICA for cancellation and ICA will grant a social visit pass for you to complete the formalities for the issuance of a new Student's Pass.

Once the application is approved, you will need to collect your new Student's Pass at ICA with the following documents:-

  • Passport and a photocopy of the passport particulars page
  • Student's Pass that was issued to you earlier
  • Medical Report
    • If you submitted a medical report to ICA not more than 2 years ago, you do not need to re-submit a new medical report.
    • The medical report should not have been issued more than 3 months ago at the time of submission to ICA.
  • Duly signed copy of Form 16, printed from SOLAR
  • A recent passport-size photograph
  • In-Principle Approval (IPA) Letter, to be stamped by NTU

Payment of a $60 issuance fee for every student's pass issued and a further $30 multiple-entry visa fee for visa required national, where applicable.
