Application for Student’s Pass for Graduate Students

If you need a visa to enter Singapore

You must submit the electronic Form 16 prior to your departure for Singapore.

  • Form 16 can be submitted by logging into the Student's Pass On-Line Application and Registration (SOLAR) at the ICA website under E-Services. The SOLAR application number and other details that you need to log into the SOLAR system will be sent to you in your admissions package.
  • Print and sign the completed Form 16 for collection of Student’s Pass.
  • ICA will process your Student's Pass application after Form 16 is submitted online.  It takes about 2 to 3 weeks for ICA to process your application. Some applications may take a longer time to process.
  • Upon successful application, you would receive the In-Principle Approval Letter for Student's Pass cum the single-journey entry visa for your entry to Singapore. You need not separately apply for the visa.
  • The single-journey visa allows you to stay up to 30 days in Singapore.
  • Produce IPA Letter at the immigration checkpoint upon entry into Singapore.
  • If you do not receive the IPA before you depart from your country, you will need to apply for a visa from the Singapore Embassy or Singapore Consulate in your own country to enter Singapore.  You can then collect the IPA from the University when you arrive here.

Collection of student's pass and payment

  • You must complete the formalities for applying for and collecting your Student’s Pass before your Social Visit Pass or existing Student's Pass expires and after completing the on-line matriculation procedure.
  • You may apply for the Student's Pass with the listed documents at ICA.
  • Documents required for the issuance of a Student's Pass
    • Passport with a valid Social Visit Pass or a Student's Pass that was issued to you while you were studying at your former institution.
    • Disembarkation/Embarkation Form
    • Medical Report (not applicable for students staying less than 6 months in Singapore)
    • Duly signed copy of Form 16, printed from SOLAR
    • One recent passport-size photograph

Fee for student's pass

The fee for the Student's Pass is $40.00 per year or part thereof.  Students will have to pay the fees applicable for the whole duration of their course.

  • For a 3-year course, students will have to pay S$120.00 while for a 4-year course, students will pay $160.00.  Visa fee is $20 to $40 depending on single or multiple entry visa. Fees are subject to change by the ICA.
  • Payment at ICA is only by NETs (using an ATM card), ez-link card or CashCard.

Medical examination

International students with a Student's Pass who stay in Singapore for 6 months or more are required to undergo a medical examination by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). This includes a chest x-ray for tuberculosis and a test for the AIDS-causing Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

For new applicants

The medical examination can be done either in Singapore or overseas using the official medical form [PDF | 58KB] provided by ICA.  If you choose to do it in your home country, it is up to the doctors here and also ICA to advise if they find it acceptable. If not, you will have to re-do it. As such, we strongly recommend that you do it here at the NTU Medical Centre.

The medical report should not have been issued more than 3 months ago at the time of submission to ICA. If you submitted a medical report to ICA not more than 2 years ago, you do not need to re-submit a new medical report.
