All full-time matriculated students who have paid an annual health service fee (S$64.20 [inclusive of GST] per year for AY 2010/2011) are eligible for this scheme.
The benefits of the Medical Scheme are applicable in Singapore only.
If you want to seek a claim under this scheme, call the Medical Centre on campus at 67936974 or 67936828 and arrange an appointment to see Dr. Calvin Tan. Please state that the purpose of the appointment is to seek a claim under the Medical Scheme. If further assistance is required after having approached the Medical Centre on campus, please contact Mr. Lai Yew Chan of Student Affairs Office, Level 6, Student Services Centre.
Salient points of the scheme
- Prepaid outpatient treatment at the Medical Centre on campus (non-standard drugs will be charged at cost).
- Consultation at Specialist Outpatient Clinics at the National University Hospital and all Government Restructured Hospitals.
- Admission to the B2 or subsidised ward of National University Hospital and all Government Restructured Hospitals. There will be no reimbursement of bills incurred in any other wards (For more information, please look under "Additional Points").
- A student will be covered up to only 21 days of hospitalisation in each academic year.
- Ambulance fee: only emergencies from campus to National University Hospital or the nearest Government Restructured Hospital will be covered.
- All medical bills eligible for reimbursement must be claimed within 2 months of the date of the bill/receipt.
- There will be no reimbursement of any medical bills incurred in the non-subsidised outpatient clinics of Government Restructured Hospitals and National University Hospital. For exceptional cases, please look under "Additional Points".
- All benefits are subject to review.
- Students will cease to be eligible for the Scheme when they cease to be matriculated students of the University. (Where applicable, cover for final-year students in the second semester shall cease on 30 June.)

- Consultations at private clinics
- Consultation fees, hospital charges and operation fees incurred at private hospitals or at any private nursing homes
- Dental Care
- Eye refraction and purchase of spectacles
- Medical aids and appliances
- Maternity care
- All pre-existing illnesses
- Contact-lens-related illnesses
- Cosmetic treatment
Additional points
- The Medical Centre on campus will reimburse only medical expenses of referral cases that have been referred by the Centre or the government polyclinics.
- Referrals to Specialist Outpatient Clinics (SOCs) at Government Restructured Hospitals and National University Hospital by the Medical Centre on campus:
- Medical expenses at these SOCs are reimbursable only at prorated B2 rates. Please note that there are only two categories of patients defined at these SOCs, either the subsidized patient referred from a government polyclinic or a paying class patient (only A class rates) referred from a non-polyclinic doctor. The doctor at the Medical Centre on campus is considered a non-polyclinic doctor. For international students, all investigations at these SOCs will be done at the A class rate without exception.
- Expenses at these SOCs are reimbursable only when the referral has been deemed necessary by the Centre. The medical expenses for self-requested referral cases will not be reimbursed.
Hospitalisation:
- Only students who have been admitted to B2 (subsidised ward) can claim for medical reimbursement under this scheme. Bills other than that of B2 or subsidised wards are not reimbursable. Local students are advised to opt for C wards if they are unable to afford the B2 or subsidised ward rates.
- However, as international students are not eligible for admission to B2 or subsidised wards at all Government Restructured Hospitals and National University Hospital, they will be admitted to paying-class wards B1 and above. They can seek reimbursement from the Group Hospital and Surgical Insurance Scheme administered by the International Student Centre. For the details, please visit the website of the International Student Centre.
- As a general rule, as long as the hospitalisation is not due to pre-existing illnesses or is not cosmetic in nature, the expenses can be claimed. However, non-standard medications are not reimbursable. The following are the details for the reimbursable amounts for the items as indicated (Please note that these figures, provided by the Medical Centre on campus, are subject to change):
- Ward charges: S$50.00 X No. of days up to 21 days
- Daily treatment fee: S$16.00 X No. of days up to 21 days
- Surgery: up to S$298.00
- X-ray: up to S$50.00 per admission
- Laboratory: up to S$50.00 per admission
- Rehabilitative services : up to S$50.00 per admission (but no reimbursement for consumables)
- Implant: up to S$100.00 for standard implant per admission
- Medicine (Standard): up to S$50.00 per admission
- A & E (with admission or no admission): up to S$50 per visit
Other points
- Students undergoing Attachment for Engineering Students, Professional Attachment, Professional Internship or any other official attachment program based in Singapore and coordinated by the Career and Attachment Office may seek consultation and treatment at other local branches of Gethin-Jones Medical Practice Pte Ltd on the same terms and conditions of the Medical Scheme. They may also seek consultation and treatment at any nearby government polyclinic and seek reimbursement on the same terms and conditions of the Medical Scheme.
- Eligible students can seek consultation and treatment at other branches of Gethin-Jones Medical Practice Pte Ltd, now and hereafter in operation, under the same terms and conditions. The existing other branches are as follows:

- Dental care: Although dental care is excluded from the Medical Scheme, dental services are provided at the Medical Centre on campus. You may contact the dental centre on campus at 67908578. There may be some students who are contemplating arranging for related dental procedures to be performed in succession in more than one country. Such students are advised to find out beforehand the risks involved as well as the protocol and practices in the succeeding country.
