Centre for IT Services (CITS)
The Centre for IT Services (CITS) is the central IT support for NTU. We manage the university’s IT infrastructure, central IT resources and deploy university-wide e-services throughout the organization.
The IT infrastructure of NTU consists of a very large high-speed campus network, linked to overseas Internet, serving the information and computing needs of tens of thousands of users in teaching, learning, research, administration and personal communications.
All facilities, resources and services available over the Internet and Intranet are accessible by students and staff on the campus network, wired or wireless, locally or overseas. Teaching, learning and research are further facilitated by NTU's rich online learning materials, collaboration tools and abundant online library resources.
Our Vision
It is to provide world class IT services in making NTU a great global university.
Our Mission
It is to empower all individuals and businesses of the university with strategic, innovative and productive IT services to maximize their potential.
To achieve that, we constantly strive to update and upgrade the IT infrastructure and applications in the university, putting ourselves on the cutting edge of technology and innovation.
We have a well-connected campus
CITS maintains both high-speed wired and wireless networks throughout the campus. Some examples of how well the university is wired up include:
- All lecture theatres (LTs) are networked. Teaching videos can be piped through the network to any LTs with ease.
- The academic complexes and key buildings on campus have wireless access. Many power points are also available in these areas to allow users to study and work with their notebook computers throughout the area.
- Members of NTU can also access the university’s IT resources wirelessly in other Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs).
- Network points are provided in every hostel room on campus.
- We also provide hundreds of dial-up lines and Virtual Private Network (VPN) access to make it easy for staff and students to access IT resources off-campus wherever they are.
- Most transactional services like examination schedules, results checking, change of personal particulars, salary enquiries, leave application, etc. are web-based, allowing our students and staff to access them easily
- Some e-services like the checking of examination results and the resetting of passwords can also be accessed via the mobile phones through WAP or SMSes. We are also working on PDA accessible versions of certain e-services.
- Live web casts for selected seminars and events.
- Daily 24-hour access to selected videos on demand, and multimedia contents streamed to your computer on campus.
We are opened daily
Our centre runs a popular Helpdesk hotline from 7am to 11pm daily (including weekends and public holidays). Staff and students with IT related problems mostly call or email our Helpdesk staff. The Helpdesk staff are supported by a team of IT professionals who are on call 24x7.
Other things we do
CITS also co-ordinates special computer and software deals for students and staff of the university. Students may also apply for attractive computer loans.
The centre also publishes a monthly electronic newsletter, the iTzone (www2.ntu.edu.sg/itzone). It helps the campus community keep abreast of the latest information on IT and new e-services that are available. The newsletter can be accessed online and interested readers may also subscribe to newsletter alerts. CITS has been publishing its own newsletter for over 20 years.
