| Kimberly, enrolled with the National Institute of Education (NIE) under the Bachelor of Arts (Education) programme demonstrated consistent academic excellence and active extra-curricular participation. Exhibiting great initiative, she produced the Orientation Group Leader handbook, played a crucial role in developing the Student Hub on campus and introduced the concept of a learning festival in NIE as part of Teachers' Day celebrations in 2006, which has become an annual student event. Having a heart for the less fortunate, she enthusiastically raised funds to help the charitable beneficiaries elected by the Director of NIE. Kimberly represented NIE both locally and internationally: as a student usher in the International Physics Olympiad, as one of the student speakers at the annual NTU-NIE Staff enrichment seminar and as an emcee at the National Day Observance Ceremony. She is the Valedictorian for the Teachers' Investiture Ceremony 2008 where she will deliver her speech before the Minister for Education. |
| Bernard's drive to succeed is evidenced by some of his academic achievement: the Dean's List for AY2005/06 and AY2006/07, the Isetan Foundation Scholarship in AY2007/08, the Harvard Club of Singapore Book Prize and Ernst & Young Scholarship in AY2005/06. Apart from pursuing academic excellence, Bernard believes in developing leadership and interpersonal skills. Active involvement in demanding and challending co-currlcular activities helped develop his time management skills and leadership qualities. He served and represented Nanyang Business School as the Vice-President of the Accountancy & Business Club, the Financial Controller of the Convocation Ball Committee and an NBS Student Ambassador. Having completed his internship with Ernst & Young, Bernard will begin his career as a Valuation & Business Modelling Associate with the Transaction Advisory Services Department of Ernst & Young. He plans to gain sufficient working experience and to eventually pursue an MBA with a reputable overseas university. |
| Zin Yan graduated from the Singapore Polytechnic and was awarded the Agere System Gold Medal for being first in general proficiency throughout the Diploma programme. He was also on the Director's Honour List for three consecutive years. He continued to blaze through at NTU where he was on the Dean's List for three consecutiv years and was awarded the NTU President Research Scholarship for the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) programme. In 2007, he won the Gold Award in the URECA@NTU Poster Competition. Zin Yan's time was not all spend on himself. He participated in the Peer Tutoring programme to assist a group of students to overcome difficulties in their studies and also participated in the URECA Student Club where he was the Publication Officer. The education and experience gained in NTU prepared him to embark on a challenging career. He intends to gain some work experience before pursuing graduate studies. |
| Edbert has always excelled in Physics and Mathematics. In 2004, he represented Indonesia at the 35th International Physics Olympiad and won a Silver Medal. At NTU, he was an Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) participant from 2005 and undertook an exchange programme at KTH Stockholm, Sweden in 2006. He helped to found the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) Students' Club and took up the Publications Officer post in its first year of operation. Edbert showed great resource and perserverance in mastering the ultrafast optical techniques for his URECA and Final Year projects and contributed significantly to the work on understanding the dynamics of optical emission in ZnS nanocrystals. To his friends, he is one who spends time and effort in helping them in their work and he also participated in tutoring junior students, garnering excellent feedback. Upon graduation, he will undertake research work at the Femtosecond Dynamics Lab in the Division of Physics and Applied Physics before pursing a PhD degree. |
| Eric came to Singapore in 2003 under the Ministry of Eduation (MOE) ASEAN Pre-University Scholarship and enrolled in NTU in 2005. Under the NTU ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship, he graduated with First Class Honours with a double specialisation in Actuarial Science and Banking & Finance. His achievements included the Universit Scholars Award, the Monetary Authority of Singapore Book Prize, and the Dean's List for AY2005/2006 and AY2006/2007. A believer in holistic development, he involved himself in non-academic pursuits. An avid rock-climber, he was the Training Officer and Chairperson of NTU's Mountaineering Club and clinched top positions in numerous national rock-climbing competitions. Eric is his cohort's Valedictorian, was the Vice President of the Quantitative Finance & Actuarual Science Club and held many leadership positions in various committees. He is presently with Deutsche Bank and is eager to leverage on the skills that he has learnt during these years to build up a successful career in the banking industry. |
| Halim Susanto gained admission to NTU under the Asean Undergraduate Scholarship. He was on the Dean's List for his outstanding academic achievements in all his years of study in NTU. He also won various awards during his undergraduate study, such as the Meinhardt Book Prize in 2004, the Institution of Engineers Singapore Gold Medal in 2007, the NTU Class of 85 Cash Prizes Award in 2007, and the TUCSS Geotechnical Engineering Cash Award in 2007. Being a top student of his cohort, he was invited to participate in the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) twice, and obtained very good grades for both attempts. Besides being focussed on this academic achievements, he was also actively involved in the Indonesian Freshmen Committee during his study in NTU. |
| Hans Guruh's greatest interests have always been Mathematics and Computer Science. During high school, he won a Silver Medal in the Indonesian National Mathematics Olympiad. This experience gave him the exposure to high-level mathematics and honed his problem-solving skills, inspiring him to take up Computer Science in NTU. Being on the Dean's List for three consecutive years and his participation in the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) are testimonies of his thriving undergraduate days. His academic achievements were balanced with non-academic pursuits. Serving the School of Computer Engineering student population as the IT Officer and volunteering as a mentor to teach secondary school students as part of the BP Mentoring Scheme were his ways of giving back to the community. Hans Guruh is joining Encentuate, an IBM company that focuses on security software, as a software engineer. He intends to apply for postgraduate scholarships to further his study in Computer Science. |
| Cha Kie excelled academically in high school and received the Top Student award at Chung Hwa High School three times and the Model Student Award in 2003. She was also the winner of the "Book Prize of Unified Examination 2003 for Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary School". Her time in NTU was no different from that of her high school days. She was the NTU President Research Scholar 2006 for the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) and was awarded the "Wan Boo Sow Book Prize" in 2006. Despite her busy academic schedule, she also participated actively in various activities and has won many awards, including the Excellence Award in the Category of Fiction and in th Category of Literary Criticism in the 9th Singapore Tertiary Chinese Litrerature Award. Cha Kie plans to pursue a postgraduate degree after her graduation and is awaiting responses for her applications. |
| Peifen was enrolled as a returning teacher in the accelerated Bachelor of Science (Education) programme. Besides achieving academic excellence, she also made significant contributions both within the National Institute of Education (NIE) community and beyond. She contributed two chapters to a book entitled, "A Guide to Outdoor Experiential Learning" edited by Michael Koh and May Tan. Peifen was part of NTU's floorball team, represented NTU in several inter-club games, was an orientation club leader for the Physical Education and Sports Science Club freshmen camp, and represented NIE at the Academic Session for Young Leaders 2007 in Kuala Lumpur. Since 2006, she has served as an alumni member and camp facilitator for the Singapore Olympic Academy and is committed towards the promotion of Olympic education. She is a qualified course trainer at the People's Association community club and holds the rank of corporal as a Volunteer Special Constabulary in the Singapore Police Force. |

Xue Ni, a Nanyang Scholarship holder, was on the Dean’s List for three consecutive years, participated in the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) and was awarded the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Prize in 2007. During her Industrial Attachment with the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), she co-authored research papers in a top international journal and conference proceedings. One of her conference papers received Honourable Mention in the 2008 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation. She was also a co-inventor of a patent filed by I2R. Despite her busy schedule, she was involved in many hall activities and is a volunteer with the Joo Chiat Guan Yin Temple. In recognition of her achievements, Xue Ni is awarded the University Scholars Award and is elected the Valedictorian for her school. She was offerred a scholarship to pursue her PhD degree in Duke University, and a position from a local listed company, but she decided on a career with the Monetary Authority of Singapore upon graduation. |
| Nguyen Dang Khoa is a Mathematics genius. He won a Silver Medal at the International Mathematics Olympiad (2003) held in Vietnam, was on the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) Dean’s List for two years and obtained his Honours degree with a perfect Grade Point Average (GPA). He is exceptional in his ability to grasp complex theories. As a prerequisite for his Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) project directed by Assoc. Prof. Bernhard Schmidt, he needed to familiarize himself with the complexity of Algebraic Number Theory. True to form, he was able to grasp all the necessary matter within a few weeks of self-study. He also learned to use PARI/GP, one of the most sophisticated software available for mathematical purposes. He applied this knowledge to obtain substantial progress in the research areas of Gauss sums and weight distributions of binary cyclic codes. These results have been included in a joint paper with his supervisor and the paper is currently in the submission process. |
| Wenjue hailed from one of the most prestigious and competitive high schools in China, the Nanjing No.1 Middle School. She came to Singapore in 2002 under the MOE GLC PRC Undergraduate Scholarship, and enrolled in NTU in 2004. In NTU, she was awarded the President Research Scholarship 2005 & 2006 for the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) and was on the Dean’s List every year. Besides excelling in her studies, Wenjue was also actively involved in other non-academic activities. She was the Vice-President of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) Club, the Social Secretary for the Inter-School Game Working Committee and the Group Leader for the CEE Freshmen Orientation. She was also the representative for the School of Maritime Studies in ‘Making Waves’, a documentary produced by Channel NewsAsia. Presently, she is the Relationship Manager with Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale, and is eager to establish a successful career in the banking industry. |
| Lie Na leads a fulfilling life, balancing the rigours of being a student with the pursuit of meaningful endeavours. She was awarded the Nanyang Scholarship and was on the Dean's List every year of her Accelerated Bachelor's Programme. Her involvement in the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) resulted in her work on the synthesis and aqueous solution properties of sterically stabilized pH-responsive polyampholyte microgels being co-published in the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science. She completed her internship with the Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering, ETH Zurich, and will be undertaking her PhD studies in Chemical Engineering in the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall. She was nominated for the University Scholars Award and was elected as the Valedictorian for her cohort. Lie Na, who speaks five languages and plays the keyboard and guitar, actively volunteers at her local church and has participated in many community-oriented projects with Cornerstone Community Services. |
| Pin-Ru’s academic achievements include being on the Dean’s List every year, the President Research Scholarship for the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) programme, the NTU Alumni Scholarship for two years and participation in the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) internship programme. An active participant in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) and her hall, Pin-Ru held the positions of financial controller and chief group leader in the Freshmen Orientation Camp Committee for two years and was a Brand Ambassador of HSS. She won several medals for her hall in swimming and netball, and was also part of the hall’s cheerleading team that emerged champion at the Inter-Hall Cheerleading Competition. She was chosen to be the Valedictorian of the pioneer batch of graduating students from HSS and is a recipient of the University Scholars Award. Pin-Ru is currently working in the research team at the Royal Bank of Scotland. |
| Si Kee’s strong work ethic and academic achievements were rewarded with her inclusion on the Dean’s List for two consecutive years. She also undertook a challenging project within the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) programme and continued with the research for her Final Year Project entitled, “Study of Tripartite Motif 22 (TRIM22) Sumoylation”. By devoting time to research, Si Kee gained vital experience in laboratory work, specifically in cancer cell biology research. Her research work has put the knowledge she has acquired in SBS to greater use. Not one to be turned off by hard work and busy workload, she participated actively in class and school events, and provided necessary assistance to classmates to get the most out of her educational experience. Si Kee is looking forward to starting her PhD. programme and plans to take up an international postdoctoral position in Life Sciences after completing her PhD. |
| Zhao Long is a Nanyang Scholar and has won several book prizes like the Meinhardt Book Prize in 2005 and the Vicom Book Prize in 2006. With immence interest in research, he participated in the Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus (URECA) programme. Having a passion to learn about the Chinese culture and its people, Zhao Long joined the Global Immersion Programme (GIP) and spent 22 weeks in Shanghai working for Vetco Gray Petroleum Equipment Co Ltd. During this period, he attended Chinese Literature, China Economy and History classes at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Zhao Long was an active member of the Chinese Orchestra when he was at Chinese High School and Hwa Chong Junior College. He participated in several concerts held at the Kallang Theatre and the Victoria Concert Hall. Currently, he is weighing his options before applying for jobs and he hopes to further his studies after working for a few years. |
| Vu Thu Trang, having been awarded the ASEAN Scholarship, came to Singapore to pursue her undergraduate studies. She was on the Dean’s list every year of her study and was awarded the Industrial Attachment Book Prize for the programme of Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) AY2006/07. Besides academic knowledge, Vu Thu Trang gained precious team-work and leadership experience from various extra-curricular activities in different clubs such as Earthlink NTU, the Travel Services Committee and the URECA Student Club. Having participated in the Undergraduate Research Experience in CAmpus (URECA) programme for three years, she gained invaluable experience in research and was awarded Gold Award for URECA Posters Exhibition and Competition 2006 and the Commendation Award in the Green Wave Environmental Project Care 2006. All these helped to consolidate her interest in research and sealed her decision to pursue her post-graduate studies under the NRF-EWT Scholarship upon completion of her undergraduate programme. |
| Yandi is an optimistic and focussed individual who strives hard at every task he undertakes. He was on the Dean’s List for three consecutive years, the winner of Singapore Welding Society Gold Medal Award (2005-2006) and the NTU Motor Fest Marketing Ideas Competition in 2006. Despite his academic achievements, Yandi remains humble, respectful, and cooperative with everyone. Being well-liked, he assumed leadership positions as the president of Graduation Class Gift 2008 and Fusion3 Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) School Day 2006. He cherishes opportunities that allow him to meet new friends of different backgrounds so he was cut out for positions like the NTU Students’ Union Council and Welfare Officer and the university student ambassador. He also founded the Peer Tutoring Scheme (2006-2007). The various competencies he acquired in NTU will definitely be put to good use as he embarks on his career in the finance industry. |
| Rebecca, one of the most outstanding graduates from Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI), was on the Dean’s List yearly, and was awarded the Media Development Authority’s Media Education Scheme Scholarship and the NTU President Research Scholarship. She attended Ithaca College in New York under the student exchange programme and interned at Weber Shandwick Worldwide. Rebecca excelled not only academically. In junior college, she was a Student Councillor, a track and field team member, and Miss ACJC. At NTU, she was the Executive Editor for the alumni publication Connecxscions in 2006. In her final year project, she spearheaded Singapore’s first anti-binge drinking campaign Get Your Sexy Back. Rebecca is passionate about social causes and strives to give back to society through many volunteer activities, like her promotional efforts for the aid organization and its After School Care programme in Baan Nam Kem, a tsunami-hit area. Upon graduation, her career is set up with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |
| Yukai displayed academic excellence by being on the Dean’s List for two consecutive years, participating in the NTU Global Immersion Programme (GIP) at the University of Washington, Seattle and representing NTU in the ProEngineer & Toy Design Competition in 2006, winning two team prizes: second place in Creative Product Design and first Prize in Best Entry from Participating Institutions. He was also awarded the Max Lewis Scholarship for two consecutive years and the prestigious University Scholars Awards. Yukai was a Student Ambassador during a visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr George Yeo in June 2008. He co-founded the NTU GIP Students Club and is its current vice-president. Beyond NTU, he is a volunteer of the Achievers Club at the Institute of Mental Health. Yukai also demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit as the co-founder and director of Dimension Number Five LLP, fulfilling one of his life long dreams. |
