All international students who have been accepted and offered a place as a full-time matriculated or registered student are required to hold a valid Student’s Pass issued by the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
How to apply for the Student’s Pass
New applications for a Student’s Pass must be submitted at least one month and not more than 2 months before the commencement of the course through ICA’s Student’s Pass On-Line Application & Registration (SOLAR) system.
- Registration of Student’s Pass
Before you submit an application for a Student’s Pass through SOLAR, NTU will register you through SOLAR with the following information:
- your name, date of birth, gender and nationality (as they appear in your travel documents);
- course details e.g., commencement and end dates
- SOLAR application reference number.
2. Submission of eForm 16 by student
Once NTU has successfully registered your information, you may login to SOLAR to submit eForm 16.
You must have the following information ready:

passport details (including travel document/passport number, date of expiry, etc)

NRIC/FIN of parents if your parents are Singaporeans or foreigners who are working or residing in Singapore

*Your digital colour photograph must:
- be taken within the last three months
- be taken against a white background
- show the full face and be taken without headgear (headgear worn in accordance with religious or racial customs is acceptable but must not hide facial features)
- must be in JPEG (.jpg) format
- file size no more than 60kb
- passport photo size 400 x 514 pixels
- taken with a camera of at least 2 megapixels
Processing time
The processing time is three full working days if you do not require a visa to enter Singapore. Should you require a visa to enter Singapore, the processing time is 10 working days. Some applications may take a longer time to process.
Completion of formalities
If your application is successful, you will be issued with an in-principle approval (IPA) letter by ICA through NTU. If you require a visa to enter Singapore, it will be incorporated in the IPA letter. You need not apply for a separate visa and may enter Singapore by producing the IPA letter at the checkpoints.
- Peak Period – Offsite Enrolment in NTU
ICA, in collaboration with the NTU, conducts offsite enrolment during peak registration periods for the issuance of Student's Pass. NTU will advise students on the date, time and venue for the offsite enrolment.
2. Off-Peak Period – Collection of Student’s Pass at ICA
If you are not scheduled for offsite enrolment you are required to call in person at Visitor Services Centre 4th Storey, ICA Building for the completion of formalities.
The completion of formalities is strictly by appointment only. Please use ICA’s e-appointment facility to select the preferred date and time to complete formalities. On the date of the appointment, proceed to the Self-Service Ticketing Kiosk 3 located at the Visitor Services Centre, level 4, ICA Building to obtain a queue ticket. You are advised to be punctual for the appointment.
Please bring along the following documents when collecting your pass:
- IPA letter from ICA
- a valid passport / travel document
- a photocopy of your passport particulars page
- embarkation /disembarkation card (IMM27)
- signed printout of Form 16 from SOLAR
- a medical report in the prescribed ICA format including original copy of the laboratory report (not applicable if the total course duration is less than 6 months)
*Note that the Student’s Pass will only be issued not more than one month before the commencement of the course. You are required to ensure your own valid stay in Singapore at all time.

Note:
- A replacement fee of $60 will be imposed if the Student’s Pass is lost or stolen.
- An additional $30 processing fee will be imposed for any amendments made to the submitted eForm 16.
Returning/ cancelling the Student’s Pass
Please surrender your Student’s Pass to ICA for cancellation within seven days from the date you complete or terminate your full-time studies, or convert to part-time studies.
Bring your Student’s Pass and the cancellation form to the Student’s Pass Unit at Level 4 of the ICA Building.
You will be granted a short stay in Singapore upon the cancellation of your Student’s Pass. For a longer stay, for e.g., to look for a job, please apply for a one-year (non-renewable) Social Visit Pass at the Social Visit Pass Unit of ICA.
