NTU Team AY2009/10

The NTU Men’s Team has been actively playing in the SHF League since 1999. However, after 10 years with our own training facilities and excellent coaching assistance from coaches from the national setup, we are still unable to attract undergraduates who excel in the sports.  This will be the 10^th Year that the NTU team will be playing in the league and if we are still having lukewarm response from undergraduates to the setup, we are unlikely to support the sports in the future.

Hockey was featured in the 14^th edition of the Asean University Games 2008 at Kuala Lumpur. Held at the Bukit Jalil Complex, it featured host Malaysia, Indonesia, Timor Leste and Singapore.  NTU was represented in the Combined Universities team by 9 students. Of this 9 players, 4 players for NTU were in the SHF League – Sajivan Hariram, Iskandar Shah b Abu Bakar, Prabu Selvaraj and Ismail Fahmy b Jamil.  On paper, we ranked 2^nd after the Malaysian and the team's aim was to keep the status. Competition level was good with the Timor Leste and Indonesian team playing very fast and very hard. The Singapore won against the 2 lower ranked team and played Malaysia in the finals. Despite resting some key players, the Malaysian still easily beat us 9-1 in the Finals.
