Cheers Post Secondary Team Championships
7 - 12 Sept 2009, Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall
NTU participated in the tournament for the second year running and as defending Champions having won the title last year beating Temasek Polytechnic.
This year’s tournament saw the entry of Li Ning Sports as the second major sponsor. Li Ning sports product including Rackets, bags and voucher await the winners.
NTU was grouped with Singapore Sports School – Auckland University of Technology, Jurong Junior College and Republic Polytechnic. National University of Singapore, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore Management University were in the 2nd group.
NTU did well to top their group and qualify for the semi-finals against Temasek Polytechnic. NUS and SSS-AUT played the other semi finals.
Against last year’s finalists, NTU triumph 3-1 banking on our superiority in our ladies players. SSS-AUT defeated NUS 3-0 to set up a replay of earlier group match that NTU won 4-1.
The 4-1 victory over SSS-AUT during the preliminary was anything but easy with 3 of the 5 ties going in rubber sets. Victory could have gone either way.
As such, the final against SSS-AUT was not going to be an easy match. Every single tie was important. With 4 out of 5 ties going into rubber sets, SSS-AUT finally triumph after over 3 hours and dethroned NTU for a marginal 3-2 victory.
We would like to congratulate SSS-AUT for a good display. While I am sad that we did not win, I would be even sadder if they did not win despite training almost full-time for the last couple of years.
The NTU team did not let us down by playing well in their first tournament of the year. They will now return to training for the upcoming IVP championship.

Recreational Badminton
NTU does not have a Badminton Club that caters to recreational badminton. Students who want to play may book the badminton courts online. They have to provide their own rackets and shuttlecocks.
