In recognition of the great success he has achieved as an entrepreneur, Nanyang Technological University is proud to present Mr Chen Chiu-Hao, Ted with the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
Mr Chen co-founded EverComm Uni-Tech Singapore – which helps manufacturers reduce energy wastage by providing energy management and analytics solutions – in 2013. After collecting and validating energy usage data from various sensor sources, EverComm analyses this energy usage and output data to recommend the most efficient equipment settings for the manufacturer. Evercomm works closely with Nanyang Technological University on various research projects, explores sustainable urban planning with Surbana Jurong, and pioneers IoT and industrial solutions with NXP and GLOBALFOUNDRIES. As of March 2016, Evercomm had accumulated over US$3.4 million in energy savings, while the company had generated over US$1 million in total revenue.
EverComm has been accredited as an innovative energy analytics company by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. It was voted the favourite of four start-ups at the Lion’s Den event at the 8th World Entrepreneurship Forum in Hangzhou. This year, Mr Chen was also named in Forbes’ inaugural 30 under 30 Asia list (Manufacturing & Energy category). In addition, EverComm is a founding member of the Singapore Manufacturing Consortium, which seeks to elevate manufacturers to the next level of efficiency, productivity and quality.
A serial entrepreneur, Mr Chen has also co-founded other companies including Immersive Soundscape, which has technology that can “turn” a pair of headphones into surround sound speakers. The start-up was honoured with the Best of Show award at the 2011 TechVenture, a major Asian conference-cum-exhibition by the National Research Foundation showcasing Singapore’s entrepreneurial and technology innovation eco-system.
As an undergraduate, he helped start the NTU Green and Sustainable Technologies Society, which seeks to groom students into leaders for the green industry. Notable green solution projects include spearheading the creation of an electric-bicycle system inside NTU, with the Society also obtaining projects worth $50,000 from its partner organisations.
