For her outstanding contributions to the fine arts, Nanyang Technological University is proud to present Ms Choo Jing, Sarah with the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
A Multidisciplinary Fine Artist – mainly in painting, photography and moving images – who is currently pursuing her MFA in Fine Art Media at the acclaimed Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, Ms Choo’s work focuses on the relationship between space and time and reflects on social and cultural norms.
Ms Choo completed her undergraduate studies in 2013 – receiving the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal – and immediately set about making waves in the art scene. That same year, she took home Singapore’s most coveted photography award, the ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu. She also won the Kwek Leng Joo Prize for Excellence in Still Photography. In 2014, she was a finalist in the Sovereign Asian Art Prize, in which mid-career contemporary artists are nominated to participate by a carefully selected board of art experts. As an undergraduate, she was named Photographer of the Year, Fine Art Category, at the 4th Pollux Awards in 2012, which saw nearly 3,000 submissions from 42 countries. Also in 2012, she received several Honourable Mentions at the International Photography Awards.
She has represented Singapore at the NordArt 2013 contemporary art fair and Cinema Total 2014 in Germany, and The CURRENTS Santa Fe International New Media Festival 2013 in the United States.
Ms Choo’s work has been exhibited globally including in Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as in Singapore at the likes of The Esplanade, National Museum of Singapore and Marina Bay Sands. She has been covered by various local and international media including The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, The Peak Singapore and The Financial Times.
