On a personal front, Mr Lee received The Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2008 from the Association of Small & Medium Enterprises and the Rotary Club of Singapore. Despite his success, he has never forgotten his NTU roots, most recently gifting S$1 million to start a new endowment – the Von Lee Yong Miang Bursary Fund – to benefit needy students. This was matched by the Singapore Government, bringing the total endowment to S$2.5 million.
In addition, he has made time to serve as a member of the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (AACORD), a channel for the Ministry of Defence to seek the views of various stakeholder groups on defence matters, and as Chairman of the Kebun Baru Community Club Management Committee under Ang Mo Kio GRC.
