Mr Ng Woon Lam
School of Materials Engineering/Class of 1995

In recognition of his extraordinary talent in watercolour painting, NTU is proud to present Mr Ng Woon Lam the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

The artist is a member of internationally renowned watercolour bodies such as the American Watercolour Society (AWS) and National Watercolour Society. Drawing inspiration for his work from the philosophy behind the ancient Chinese practice of Taiji; Mr Ng constantly strives to achieve balance and harmony in his creative process. The Chinese calligraphy strokes evident in his pieces display the strong influence late local watercolour maestro Mr Gog Sing Hooi has had on the gifted alumnus.

The pursuit of artistic excellence is not Mr Ng’s only motivation for perfecting his craft. He also enjoys imparting knowledge and skills to the next generation. The painter is a lecturer at the School of Art, Design and Media at NTU.

Mr Ng has received many accolades for his work in the course of his career. These include the AWS Bronze Medal of Honour at American Watercolor Society 142nd Annual International Juried Exhibition 2009 and 1st Award at the Singapore Art Society National Open Juried Show 2007.

His work has also been presented at various international showcases such as the AWS 142nd Travel Exhibition and 2nd Invitation Exhibition of Contemporary International Watermedia Masters at Nanjing 2010.
 
黄运南
1995年材料工程学院毕业生

凭着超凡天赋与坚韧勇气，黄运南放弃理工转投艺术世界，在水彩画坛大放异彩、广受国际肯定，获颁南洋杰出青年校友奖。

黄运南目前是国际水彩画坛最具权威的两大组织“美国水彩画会”及“美国国家水彩画会”的会员，艺术造诣已达世界水平。他深谙中华文明“太极”之精髓，善于将“太极”背后的持衡和谐理念融入其创作过程中；而充满中华书法气势的雄健笔势，则反映了他的画风受本地已故水彩大师吴承惠影响颇深。

黄运南对水彩画的执着不只在于不断追求更高的艺术境界，也热心于传承艺术扶持后进，潜心作画之余也为南大艺术设计与多媒体学院担任讲师一职。

黄运南自1990年代末就开始在国内和区域美术比赛中崭露头角，他在国际间载誉无数，所获得的荣誉奖项包括美国水彩画会第142届常年国际展2009年“评委的选择”铜牌奖，以及新加坡艺术协会2007年全国展的一等奖。

他也受邀参加多项国际画展，如2009年美国水彩画会第142届巡回展及2010年在南京举行的中国第二届现代国际水彩邀请展。
