New Title Recommendation

​​You are welcome to recommend books or audio-visual materials for purchase by the library. We will consider your recommendation based on library policies and guidelines with criteria such as relevance (to research, teaching or learning), priority, urgency and budget status.

Faculty and staff can also use non-library funds such as school or research funds to purchase library materials.

Before you recommend
Submitting your recommendation

For Students:

Send us the following information:

  • Key information about the item if possible:

           - Title
           - Author/Editor
           - Edition
           - Publisher, Place of Publication
           - Date of Publication
           - ISBN
           - Price

  • Your full name, school and matriculation card number
  • Provide reasons for your recommendation
  • Rank your request as either:

          - A - must have
          - B - good to have, or
          - C - if funds allow

  • Indicate if you would like to be notified when the item is available for borrowing.
  • Tell us if you need the material urgently.

 
For Staff:

  1. Login to StaffLink
  2. Find the Recommendation Form. Look under Resource Request > Library Services > AV Recommendation or Book Recommendation.
  3. Follow the instructions on the form.
  4. Indicate on the form if you need the material urgently.

For Staff Only*:

  1. Login to StaffLink
  2. Find the online Recommendation Form. Look under Resource Request > Library Services > Journal Recommendation.
  3. Follow the instructions on the form.

 
* Students can submit requests through their supervisors.

After you recommend
  • Recommendations are processed typically within a week.
  • Most recommendations that have been approved for purchase will be available for borrowing within 3-12 weeks.
  • If you had indicated so, you will be notified when the item is available for borrowing.
  • Requests that are of lower relevance, priority or urgency may be put on a waiting list.
  • Due to the complex nature of journal subscriptions, recommendations are processed typically within 1-6 months.
  • The automated system in StaffLink will notify you at the end of every stage of the process.
  • Decisions to subscribe are made by College Deans (or appointed representatives) and the Library, and requests may be put on a waiting list.

 
Note:

  • E-books: If the e-book version of the book is available for purchase, we may purchase that instead of the hardcopy edition.
  • Audio-visual: For the viewing of AV materials, the Library complies with classification guidelines laid down by the Media Development Authority, Singapore. Details can be found here.
  • For all requests, the Library reserves the right to make the final decision.
