Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has set up an Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) to give its science and technology initiatives a Nobel boost. This institute brings together the best of the university's science and engineering schools, and the hallmark will be science at the highest level.

IAS will organize at least 3 workshops per year to complement and augment the ongoing research strengths of Singapore. The workshops will be designed to promote research collaborations between Singapore and overseas scientists.

Key experts in the field, both from Asia and from the West, will be invited to spend up to 2 weeks for a series of advanced seminars. Local experts will also present talks on their research.
