Background:

Against a backdrop of rapidly worsening global economic conditions, the Singapore government recently presented the biggest and boldest Budget in the country’s history. Yet little analysis has been done on the impact of the Resilience Package on the economy. In this presentation, members of the Econometric Modeling and Forecasting Unit will dissect the fiscal measures taken by the government and discuss how they might affect projections of Singapore’s GDP growth and labour market outlook in 2009.

The Nanyang Technological University has a long history of forecasting the Singapore economy. In keeping up this tradition, the Econometric Modelling and Forecasting Unit (EMU) of the Economic Growth Centre (EGC) continues to issue prognostications on the Singapore economy. Members of the EMU are Dr. Choy Keen Meng (Chair), Associate Professor Low Chan Kee, Dr. Randolph Tan, Associate Professor Huang Weihong, Dr. Pradumna Rana, Dr. Chang Youngho, Dr. Ernie Teo and Dr. Kampon Adireksombat. Their forecasts are based on time series econometric models of the Singapore economy that take into account the major external and internal factors impinging on domestic economic performance.

Profile of the Economic Growth Centre (EGC)
