Minor in Economics 
 

Requirements

To be awarded a Minor in Economics, students must complete 5 Economics courses of which 2 are compulsory and the remaining are Economics electives. All 5 courses must be registered as unrestricted (general) electives

Compulsory courses

The following students who take any of the above Principles of Economics subject are required to replace the AUs with another Economics Electives:

    • NBS students who take AB106 as a Core*.
    • Students who take HE191 as a Prescribed Elective.
  1. HE192 Economic Theory (3 AUs).
    This is an intermediate level economic theory course designed for non-economics majors. Its aim is to build up students' knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics so that they are prepared for the economics electives. Students may co-register HE192 with another Economics elective but are advised not to take Economics electives before taking HE192.

*NBS students who are exempted from AB106 will take HE192 plus 4 economic electives. 

Economics Electives

Students are free to select any course from the list of Economics electives below to make up the required AUs. All HE2xx, HE3xx, HE4xx courses constitute 4 AUs. Some of the courses require a strong mathematical background but many do not.
