About the Speaker

Professor Peter K. Bol is the Charles H. Carswell Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University. He is the author of This Culture of OursIntellectual Transitions in Tang and Song China (1992) and coeditor of Ways with Words: Writing about Reading Texts from Early China (2000) and the China Historical Geographic Information System (2005). He is currently working on the historical role of Neo-Confucian ideology and local cultural history. A new book, Neo-Confucianism in History, will appear in this fall.
