The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) is home to five new and vibrant divisions: Chinese, Economics, English, Psychology and Sociology. The establishment of these divisions represents another significant step in the transformation of Nanyang Technological University into a fully comprehensive university. Complementing the university's strengths in science and technology, HSS promises a broader and deeper undergraduate education and offers cultural enrichment and intellectual stimulation for all students.

Our students enrolled in each of the five BA (Hons) programmes will experience a specially designed curriculum that values curiosity and commitment, rigour and resourcefulness. At present the five HSS major subjects are Chinese, Economics, English, Psychology and Sociology. Plans are under development for a sixth major in Politics and Public Administration.

Students will be admitted directly into the major of their choice. Qualified students will also have the option of pursing a double major within HSS, or a double major with the School of Communication Studies or with the Nanyang Business School (the double major with Business is open to Economics students only). All students will have the opportunity to take a Minor. At NTU, students can select from an unrivalled choices of Minors offered by HSS and the other schools.

In order to ensure that our students experience a rich broad-based education, all HSS students will have the opportunity to be trained in writing and communication skills, and be exposed to a variety of subjects outside their discipline through the General Paper Requirements.
