Psychology Division Orientation 2007

The first ever Psychology orientation was a three hour event to welcome the incoming first-years to the NTU Psychology family. The whole event started off with the professors and the senior major students giving the freshmen some tips and advice to survive their four years in NTU. After that, Psychology related games were played with the aim to let the juniors know more about the school and to have some idea of what they would be learning as Psychology majors.

Psych IT!

Psych IT! or Psychology Interaction Time!, organized by the NTU Psychology Society, was held on the 5th of October 2007. It was the first get-together session for everyone in the Psychology Division, professors and students. It started off with the opening of the brand new Psychology Laboratory located in S3.2 B1 and moved on to dinner at the student lounge. During this time, some professors shared with us their overseas experiences and their researches. The whole event ended with a mini birthday celebration for Dr Michael Patterson. All in all, the event was a success and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Psychology Division Orientation 2008

A good many 'mental patients' lurked around the NTU campus as the new Psychology majors began hunting for them. Dissociative identity disorder, paranoid schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are but a few of the terms they had to familiarize themselves with.

It was a race against time to identify the patients as quickly and as accurately as possible. Sharp observation and fast-paced walking (or even running) were the order of the day as each team vied ferociously for the top spot. Some of the more relaxed participants, however, chose to adopt a more leisurely pace through the activity; whilst strolling through their new campus grounds, familiarizing themselves, they also familiarized their taste buds with the fare that NTU has to offer.

As the last mental patient was identified, the ultimate aim was achieved. Lasting bonds were forged and the budding of new friendships proliferated. Participants laughed and jested with the seniors who kindly volunteered and very vividly played the role of mental patients.

This act of togetherness bridged the gaps between the seniors and the freshmen creating a close-knit and vibrant community of Psychology majors in which an individual can thrive as they pursue their passion in the field.
