What is the Graduation Project/Thesis (GP/GT)?

The Graduation Project/Thesis is a major project to be undertaken in either the third or fourth year of study. Under normal circumstances, students will register for the Graduation Project/Thesis in Year 4 Semester 1 and must submit their GP/GT by the end of semester 2 to graduate.

However, students who satisfy the prerequisites may seek permission to undertake the GP/GT earlier. This could apply, for example, to those aiming for early graduation or those who have been accepted into overseas studies programmes. In these cases, permission would be granted to those who satisfy the prerequisites and who have made satisfactory arrangements in forming a project group and seeking appropriate supervision.

HPAP

How does HSS Professional Attachment (HPAP) work?

With effect from academic year 2006/7, The HSS Professional Attachment Programme (HPAP) will be offered as an unrestricted elective in HSS.
Professional attachment or internship has become an integral part of the undergraduate training in NTU. Students value the experience as the exposure will help them in their transition into the working world.

The duration for Professional Attachment is 8-10 weeks to be undertaken at the end of Year 3 of study. On successful completion, students will be awarded 5 Academic Units (AUs) to be used to fulfill unrestricted electives.

Students who successfully complete the PA programme will also be awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment jointly signed by the Director, Career & Attachment Office (CAO) and the organization's authorized representative.

Top

How will I be attached to the company/(s) of my choice under the HPAP Programme?

HSS will work with the Career & Attachment Office (CAO) to source for suitable placements. As placements will be limited, selection will be based on interviews by participating organizations and/or best match, and will be arranged on first-come-first-served basis.

Students may also source for placements themselves.  To be awarded the AUs, the attachment, however, must be coordinated through CAO and will be subject to the same procedure for supervision and assessment given below.

Top

How will I be eligible for HPAP?

To be eligible for professional attachment, students must have achieved:
- 70 AUs and above at the beginning of the second semester of each academic year.

Students are entitled to go on professional attachment only once.

Top

What is the minimum requirement to pass HPAP?

Upon registration for HPAP as a course and with successful placement, students must complete 8 - 10 weeks of attachment to be considered for a "pass" in HPAP.

Students who have been given approved leave of absence must also complete minimum 8 weeks of attachment to qualify for a "pass" for HPAP. Prior approval of leave of absence must be obtained from CAO and the attachment organization.

If the internship is terminated prematurely without approval from the school, the student concerned will have been deemed to have "failed" his/her attachment and the "failed" grade will be reflected in his/her transcript.

Top

Under HPAP, what will my allowance and working hours be like?

The monthly allowance paid by the organization is $600 or more.  Employers are exempted from making CPF contributions on student's allowance.

Students will follow the normal working hours of the organization on a five-day or five-and-a-half day week basis.
