Mr Chia is the Managing Director of Indocement Singapore. He also holds directorship at Finnegan Investments, Dolphin Investments, Marina Centre Holdings and Aquamarina Hotel.
Mr Chia has devoted much of his time in fostering alumni activities. For over a decade, he was the President of the Association of Nanyang University Graduates, which serves as a link to Nanyang University, NTU’s predecessor institution. He led the establishment of NTU’s Tan Lark Sye Professorship in Chinese Language and Culture and raised funds for its cause.
Mr Chia serves on the boards of several education institutions including NTU, Nanyang Junior College and Chung Cheng High School. He also holds positions in civic organisations, including the Chinese Heritage Centre, Tan Kah Kee Foundation, Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall in Singapore, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and Chinese Development Assistance Council. He has been elected Senior Honorary Council Member of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry which he served voluntarily for 16 years as a Standing Committee Member.
In recognition of his social pursuits, Mr Chia was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 1990 and Public Service Star (BBM) in 2002.
He graduated from Nanyang University and Boston University with a Bachelor and a Master, respectively, in Chemistry.
